Silky Oak Timber

Silky oak is one of the most popular ornamental native trees in Australia with it’s stunning vibrant orange, toothbrush like flowers. Silky oak timber was once used extensively in North Queensland for house framing, cladding, moulding, joinery, windows and flooring. There is much vintage furniture displaying silky oak's coarse, variable, decorative and textured grain within the wood. Silky oak is a light to medium reddish brown timber, it is highly figured, with distinctive grain and large medullary rays. Silky oak has long been a favourite of furniture makers, wood turners and carvers.
