Black Bean Timber 

Black bean is an Australian native rainforest tree with dark-brown to almost black timber and can sometimes be streaked with lighter coloured bands. The grain is quite coarse and often features striated lines. The black bean tree was a seasonal gathering point for Aboriginal peoples, and the wood was used by to make spear throwers. Traditionally the bark fibre was used for fish and animal traps, nets and baskets. Black bean derives its name from the large bean-like fruit which hang down like pendants. The timber in this pen has been harvested from the Moreton Bay region in Queensland.
